Congratulations to Dan and Claire who got married at the gorgeous West Mill, Derby Wedding Venue, on Friday 28th June. What an amazing sunny day filled with laughter and joy, and it was an absolute honour to spend the day capturing all their happy memories!
Congratulations again Mr and Mrs Harrison; Welcome to your Wedding Photography Preview!
Our Lovely Couple, Claire and Dan:
Claire and Dan happily met online through match.com. Claire explains “I remember Dan’s profile picture was tall, dark and handsome – what more could a girl ask for?! Our first date was at a Ping Pong bar in Nottingham. We chose here purely because it served amazing pizza and we soon realised neither of us were any good at Ping Pong! That, or Dan was just being extremely gentlemanly throughout and letting me win! We’ve now been together for over 4 years and haven’t played a game of ping pong since!”
“Dan got down on one knee on Christmas morning! He knows how much I loved Christmas. And it wasn’t until we’d opened all of our presents, he said “There is one more present left to open” pointing to the top of the tree. He then put on my favourite Christmas song and popped the question! It was just the two of us, at home on Christmas morning, in our PJ’s; it was perfect!”
How Did You Choose Your Wedding Venue – The West Mill in Darley Abbey, Derby
The West Mill is a Grade I listed building sitting on the banks of the River Derwent in Darley Abbey, Derby. It is an Exclusive Hire Wedding Venue and boasts gorgeous features throughout.
Claire tells us how she made her choice: “We’d narrowed it down to two venues, and wanted to keep it local to Nottingham to make sure all of our family could make it. Our decision was made when the other venue told us chair covers were included as if this was a requirement of ours – but I hate chair covers!! It was then that I knew that that venue style just wasn’t us. The West Mill was actually the first place we visited and its SO unique, that’s what we loved about it.”
A West Mill wedding is always a special one. As a local West Mill Wedding Photographer I have had the pleasure of photographing weddings here many times now. Every time the wedding day manages to feel completely different and utterly personal to the couple. What’s more, the staff are always attentive and ensure the day run completely to plan. I think that’s what makes the West Mill such a popular choice for Derby couples.
The Wedding Day:
It was a sunny warm morning and the sun sparkled off the water in the River Derwent. Claire and her two Bridesmaids were busy getting ready for the celebrations ahead in the West Mill’s bridal prep room. The mood was relaxed and happy so I took a moment to photograph some of Claire’s wedding details out in the ceremony floor. This space is perfect for details, with its unusual features and beautiful light.
I spotted Dan and his two Groomsmen walking down the path so popped down to meet them before they headed off to get ready themselves. Claire was busy with hair and make up before getting into her stunning dress with its modern shape and figure hugging design. Soon guests were arriving too and making the most of the sun trap in the courtyard of the Mill.
Soon it was time for the wedding ceremony to begin! A pianist played during their ceremony, including versions of modern songs including The 1975 and so on. It was touches like these that perfectly coupled the traditional wedding moments with the modern couple that Claire and Dan are. After saying their “I Do’s” Mr and Mrs Harrison made their way out of the Mill through a tunnel of confetti!
The afternoon then consisted of everyone chilling out in the sunshine, with drinks, canapes, giant outdoor games, and fabulous company! What more could you want! The delicious Wedding Breakfast concluded with a collection of wonderful speeches by Claire’s Dad Michael, Dan, and Best Man Julian.
I wasn’t down to stay for Claire and Dan’s cake cutting and first dance, so before my coverage ended we spent a little bit more time taking some relaxed photographs down by the river and then up in the windows of the top floor as the sun dipped low on the horizon. We also took a few more fun photographs of the couple and their wedding party. It was a delightful end to my day with this gorgeous couple and their welcoming friends and family, and I know they will have had an awesome time partying into the night!
What One Piece of Advice Would You Give Other Couples?
“Its never too early to get ahead with planning the big day, I received a great early bird offer when ordering my wedding dress! Also try not to please everybody with your choices – because it’s impossible!”
