Congratulations to Emma and Kurt who got married at the fabulous West Mill Exclusive Hire Wedding Venue in Derby, on Saturday 5th September 2019. A crazy happy awesome day with a really awesome bunch of people, and it was an absolute honour to spend the day with them capturing all their happy memories! (Make sure you scroll right to the end to see their photos from the dance floor!)

Congratulations Mr and Mrs Lamb; Welcome to your West Mill Wedding Photography Preview!

I had the pleasure of getting to know Emma and Kurt at Sarah and Andy’s wedding in the summer, so when their wedding day came around it felt like seeing old friends again which was lovely! Let’s learn a little more about them:

About Our Lovely Couple, Kurt and Emma:

Emma explains how they met: “Our first date was in Leeds, Kurt had planned the date as he knew the city well. When we got to the bar, it turned out that it was closed so a rushed Plan B was put in place and we ended up in Sela Bar. Kurt walked me home via Schuh so he could see what new shoes they had in the window…! Ha ha! We’ve been together for 8 years and engaged for 3 years by the time we get married! From the very start we spent almost all of our free time together, staying at each other’s flats most nights, and within 3 months had our first joint pet – Lexi!”

The Proposal:

Emma tells us all about their proposal story: “Kurt decided to propose while we were on a holiday in Portugal with my family in August 2016. He had been trying to propose for hours but every time he got close to popping the question my brother would start talking again. Eventually Kurt asked Robert to stop talking and got down on one knee just before midnight! The time difference with the UK meant that most family members were asleep so breaking the news woke them up or they didn’t find out until the next day. Instead, we drank more wine and the male family members invaded the stage at a local festival!”

It was actually an open secret that Kurt was going to propose as Emma had been sent to pick her top 3 rings, Emma just didn’t know when it would be. As it turned out, Emma had to wait 6 months to get engaged as her favourite ring had been sold so Kurt had the jeweller commission a bespoke piece that was almost identical! Emma almost blew the surprise when she bumped into Kurt in Leeds as he was going to collect the ring before the holiday when he was supposed to be working!

The West Mill, Darley Abbey, Derby:

As a local West Mill wedding photographer, based only 10 minutes away in Derby, the West Mill is one of my favourite wedding venues in the Midlands! But how did Emma and Kurt choose to hold their wedding at the West Mill?
Emma explains: “It was the first venue we came across on Google the day after Kurt proposed. I went on to visit 10 different venues, then I took Kurt and my parents to the top 3 favourites. After a pros and cons list for each, it was clear that the West Mill was the right venue. It has so much space and has amazing features, it’s a blank canvas that we can make our own and we love the different levels for each part of the day.

What One Piece of Advice Would You Give Other Couples?

“Have fun but set a budget and stick to it! Oh and have lots of fun going to wedding fayres for ideas, tasting wine and picking all of the food!”
