Our happy couple met at university, and were friends for a while before getting together. They have been together for over 7 years and have been through a lot together. Nicky and Chris, both vets, particularly love travelling and enjoyed a big trip around Europe when they first graduated and two years ago they went to New Zealand for calving season and travelled home via Australia and South America. But it was in the Isles of Scilly that Chris decided to ask Nicky to marry him last July. It is a very special place for them both and they have made a lot of special memories there, they have been back there teaching sailing for two summers too. So it was truly the perfect place!
Saturday the 4th August was the day that all of Chris and Nicky’s friends and family from around the world gathered together in a very sunny Derbyshire to celebrate their wedding day! It was the perfect day!
Nicky and her girls got ready in her Dad’s home in Melbourne, just walking distance from the church she would later meet Chris in. The morning was filled with laughter and hairspray, and everyone was very relaxed and excited! Similarly, Chris was doing the same with his friends, minus the hairspray, over at a pub in Melbourne. Everyone couldn’t wait to start the day!
It was soon time to walk over to the church!
Melbourne Church, if you don’t know it, is a large and beautiful church, especially for a village parish church, and sits next to the lovely Melbourne Pool. The Vicar Steve was friendly and welcoming, and it was also a pleasure to meet Lawrence the Organist who was Nicky’s Choirmaster when she was little! The service was the perfect mix of happy tears and smiles. Both their sisters did an excellent job with their respective readings!
Leaving in a flurry of confetti everyone set off for the drinks reception at the Tipi in Cuttle Brook. (Nicky and Chris and I snuck off for some cheeky photos in the Vicarage garden first!)
I loved the way you can see the tipis from Swarkstone Bridge when you are diving to the venue! It really helped build the excitement! The tipi was decorated gorgeously, a real labour of love from the past few days which I know everyone helped with! The huge driftwood chandelier made by Nicky’s Dad was a particular centrepiece!
The rest of the day and into the evening was a perfect mix of sunshine and laughter. Everyone had so much fun with the lawn games and the array of handmade drinks on offer! The campfire circle complete with marshmallow station was awesome, and the giant bubble maker was a bit hit with guests young and not-so-young! (I must admit I even had a go!!)
I love being an outdoor wedding photographer in Derby! We have so many amazing spaces such as Cuttle Brook!
Chris and Nicky’s first dance as Mr and Mrs Ogden led straight into a full on Ceilidh in the tipi! The band was fantastic and before long everyone knew all the moves and everyone had an incredible and slightly sweaty time!! It wasn’t long before the sun was setting gloriously over the fields and it was time for me to leave!
Congratulations again Nicky and Chris, it was a total pleasure spending the day with you both and your families and friends at Cuttle Brook! I hope you are having an INCREDIBLE honeymoon, and I can’t wait to speak to you when you get back! I wish you both a lifetime of love and happiness!!
