Mia and Nathan first contacted me in the summer of 2015 to book me for their wedding photography for their wedding day on the 4th June 2016. They told me about their plans to get married in their local church and then invite everyone back to their beautiful garden for the wedding buffet, before then heading over to Donington Park Farmhouse Hotel to dance the night away! I knew then that it was going to be a special one, and I was very excited to start the planning process!
On the 2nd May 2016, just over 4 weeks before the Big Day, I met up with them at Donington Park Farmhouse to talk through the details of the day and also to take some relaxed family photographs for their pre-wedding session! If you haven’t seen those photographs, go and check them out here: Nathan and Mia, a pre-wedding session in Castle Donington Derbyshire. It was wonderful getting to know them even more, and getting excited for the weeks to come!
A few days before their wedding day I went along to their wedding rehearsal at St Peters Church in Chellaston so that I could meet BJ, their Vicar, and find out from her where she would be allowing me to stand and what I would be allowed to do etc. I needn’t have worried though as she was so very friendly and welcoming. The same has to be said for Mia and Nathan’s family that I met at the rehearsal, it was so lovely to be welcomed like I was and it was such a fun half an hour that I was with them, watching them all get excited for the upcoming celebrations!
The day of the wedding finally came and the weather looked wonderful, I couldn’t wait to get over to Mia’s house to see how they were all getting on! I was welcomed in to a house full of hustle and bustle, lots of kids running around happily, and the champagne already on the go. Perfect! I could sense that the emotions were already running high, and it was so special to get to share in those special moments such as Mia and Nathan’s son Alex getting into his gorgeous little blue suit, and Mia presenting the bridesmaids with pretty little necklaces, and both mums coming downstairs looking beautiful! The wedding bouquets arrived from Jo Beth Floral Design and were a pretty girly mix of peonies, roses and eucalyptus leaves. They smelt divine!
Then it was time to head off to the church to meet up with Nathan. As I arrived I saw the guests already staring to slowly arrive, I saw lots of hugs and happy faces, and I got to meet Nathan’s support team of Best Man Sam, and his fantastic sisters!
We were then being called to take our seats, and the guests all filed inside. Mia was soon going to be arriving! Nathan’s mum Alison, the flower girls and page boys, and I kept a look out on the busy Chellaston high street for her car!
When her car pulled up everyone had tears in their eyes – she looked so beautiful! Mia had lots of hugs to give out to the little ones who found it very emotional, and you could see just how happy everyone was that this special day was finally here! Mia walked in to ‘Thousand Years’, by Christina Perri and the look of pride on Nathan’s face as she walked up the aisle really said it all!
The ceremony was just perfect, BJ the vicar made everyone feel at home and led a wonderful service. You could see how much the words meant to them and it really felt like a celebration – especially when ‘Ain’t No mountain High Enough’ by Marvin Gaye and Tammy Tarrell came on for Nathan and Mia’s exit as husband and wife! They literally danced down the aisle and out into a flurry of hugs and confetti hand-made from rose petals by Mia!
Their reception back at their house was perfectly relaxed and gave the children the chance to have a play. The food was plentiful and smelt delicious! After some photographs of everyone enjoying themselves I left them all in peace and went home for my dinner, before heading over to Donington Park Farmhouse for the party!
Walking in I was greeted by a beautiful cake made by Emma’s Cakes in Ripley, and a table of sweets and a tree where guests could hang their well wishes for the newly weds. There was also a DIY photo booth with a streamer back drop and lots of props – all made by Nathan and Mia! They had made so many things for their wedding it was wonderful!
After a little bit, I stole the happy couple away for some quiet couple time, so that I could take advantage of the beautiful surroundings and create some memorable photographs for them both. And it didn’t disappoint! The sunset was just magical and everything was just perfect, as I hope you can see!
As we got back Nathan told me of his plans for a surprise First Dance for Mia. She didn’t think they were having one but he had secretly arranged for their guitarist Will Herring to play ‘Ho Hey’ by The Lumineers for them both! Will started playing and Nathan went and invited Mia to dance – it was just perfect! Afterwards, all their friends and family joined them on the dance floor and partied the evening away!
Mia and Nathan, and little Alex, are some of the loveliest people you could meet, and I would like to wish them all the happiness in the world, and a lifetime of love and smiles together. Congratulations Mr and Mrs Gear, here are a few of my favourite photographs from your wedding day!
